The Boat Geeks #7 - Matt Steverson (Shipwright, The Duracell Project)

Recorded 2.19.24

Rebuilding a legendary Open 60 race boat requires many skills, a lot of perseverance, and for husband and wife Matt and Janneke, a leap of faith.

Recorded aboard their floating studio in Port Townsend, WA, in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, your hosts Darren and Daeron take another deep dive into the world of boating.

This episode: The Boat Geeks meet one half of The Duracell Project. From Matt's beginning as a racer (and as D&D surprisingly discover, a 1st place winning racer!) to a liveaboard cruiser, his boat building and maintenance skills are front and center as they transform the legendary around-the-world race boat known as Duracell into a "hot cruising boat." Matt completely stripped the boat to a bare hull, and together with some family and friends they are totally rebuilding her. Meanwhile, Janneke has made a series of wonderfully entertaining and educational videos documenting the work being done, taking their YouTube channel to incredible heights.
